In September 2010 Gilly and I decided to attend a Seminar for Self Build Homes at Potton Homes. We visited the show homes at St Neots and decided that this was something we had to do, so we started to search for our plot in earnest. It soon became apparent that this was not going to be easy and none of the few plots we looked at had any appeal with regard to location.
That was until the morning of 29 September 2011 when I switched on my computer and an email alert popped up from Rightmove for a building plot at Weston in Hertfordshire, with planning permission to demolish the two semi-detached cottages currently standing, and build a 3000 square foot detached Barn Style home. So…off we went to view it. The property was set in one third of an acre in the midst of farm land. We fell for it instantly. When we arrived it looked too good to be true. The plot was in a hamlet and although in a very rural location with a pub 100 yards away, amenities were just 15 minutes away. It just had to be ours but the price was way too high, but after some hard negotiating we finally made a deal 22% below the asking price completing the purchase 8 January 2012. We were on our way!
